On May 10-12, 2012, the birthplace of triathlon – San Diego, CA – will host the inaugural ITU World Triathlon San Diego. Age group athletes have the chance to compete in Olympic and sprint distance races as well as in an Olympic distance relay in the same venue as the world’s best athletes. All age group races take place on Saturday, May 12.

9:30 a.m: Age Group Sprint Distance Race
2:30 p.m: Elite Men’s Race (U.S. Olympic Team Qualifier)
The sprint distance features a 750m swim, a 26km bike and a 5km run. You may also choose to participate, if you qualify, in one of our challenges: Military Challenge, or Collegiate Club Challenge. There is no extra fee.
The Olympic distance features a 1.5km swim, a 40km bike and a 10km run. You may also choose to participate, if you qualify, in one of our challenges: Military Challenge, or Collegiate Club Challenge. There is no extra fee.
Relay Olympic Distance
The relay is part of the Olympic distance race and features a 1.5km swim, a 40km bike, and a 10km run. You can compete as a team of two or three athletes (male, female or co-ed), with each athlete competing in one leg of the race (swim, bike or run).
The team captain registers the team and covers the registration cost; the other two team members are required to register but will not be charged again.

All age group athletes may be eligible to compete in one of three challenges. If you are eligible, you will be ranked in both your distance /age group and in the Challenge you chose. You may only compete in ONE Challenge.
Compete against fellow athletes in the armed services. To be eligible, you must be an active member or veteran of the United States Military in the divisions Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard and Merchant Marine. Simply check the military challenge box on the registration form to sign up. There is no extra fee.
Collegiate Club Challenge
Represent the colors of your school and compete against other colleges/universities. To be eligible, you must be a current undergrad or grad student and your collegiate club must be registered as an official USA Triathlon club. Simply check the collegiate club box on the registration form and add your collegiate team name to sign up. There is no extra fee.
Race Rules and Regulations
All age group races are sanctioned by and will be held under the rules and regulations of USA Triathlon. All age-group races are non-drafting. Only the elite races are draft-legal. A complete set of rules can be found here.
By registering, all athletes agree to the following registration policies:
- There are NO REFUNDS, ROLLOVERS, DEFERALS or BIB TRANSFERS. No exceptions.
- For the sprint distance, the registered athlete has to be 16 or older on race day, May 12, 2012.
- For the Olympic distance, the athlete has to be 18 or older on race day, May 12, 2012.
- Each athlete has to pick up his or her own race packet. Bikes have to be racked at the communicated times. No exceptions.
